College of Veterinary Medicine

Who we are

The college, one of the oldest institutions for veterinary medical education in China, has a history that can be traced back to the Imperial University of Peking that was established in Qing dynasty and introduced its first veterinary courses in 1905. The Department of Veterinary Medicine was established in 1946 by Professor Dashi Xiong, a graduate from Iowa State University CVM who arrived in the US in 1923 and obtained DVM, Master of Science, and PhD in 1928. Professor Xiong held the chair position until 1984 when the CVM was finally founded. Over the past four decades, we have graduated nearly 3,000 veterinarians and thousands of scientists. The college is also home to the State Key Laboratory of Veterinary Public Health and Safety, 22 provincial key laboratories, as well as 8 university-level platforms, including Veterinary Teaching Hospital, the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, Animal Core Facility, Biosafety Level 3 Laboratory, etc. Please visit our official website for more details: https://cvm.cau.edu.cn/en/.
